Free Math & Science Educational Videos from Scholastic (Elementary - Middle School)

I just watched a video on volcanoes and in those few minutes, learned more than I knew about them.  Scholastic has created a site called StudyJams!, full of over 200 short, upbeat educational videos on math & science topics. 

The videos are organized by topic, so you can just find the video that matches the educational concept you're covering in class!  You may print out the lyrics to sing along to songs (I sang - poorly - a song on parallel lines and intersecting lines) and you may test yourself on a variety of topics.

We've mentioned the Khan Academy math program a few times over the years (program, yes, it's not just videos!), but did you know there are also educational videos on the sciences (physics, chemistry, biology and more), economics, history, civics, and test prep. Free Math, Language Arts & Geography Games for Elementary

I told my 11 year old that I needed to find a good elementary math freebie to post tonight, and he asked if I've posted Arcademic Skill Builders.  I have, but not in a while.  He told me they have a bunch of new games since we went there last.  So, here you go. This one is a family favorite:

Arcademic Skill Builders are "online educational video games that offer a powerful approach to learning basic math, language arts, vocabulary, and thinking skills," according to the site publishers.

Through video games and competition, students will practice concepts such as spelling and multiplication, among others.  I played in a jet ski addition game against the "computer" as well as a racing car multiplication game.  Other games include spelling, vowel and verb games, among others, for language arts and capitals and country games for geography.

The site holds safety above all:  your child may create a username if as long as its a name the program considers safe, or use the name provided, but even if he or she decides to compete with others across the internet, he may not chat with the other users.

Free Fun & Interactive Math Program for Middle Schoolers (6th-8th)

I recently asked our 10 yo daughter and 12yo son to visit MathMovesU.com and let me know what they thought of this interactive math site.  No answer.  Finally, I sought them out.  They were both enjoying the site so much that they scarcely noticed me.  I had my answer:  MathMovesU is a math program that does not bore.

Free Album of Kids' Songs

Jacob's Favorite Happy Songs for Kids is a small digital album with 5 songs for kids, sung by kids.  The second song,  I Had One Candy, is an educational, multiplication song.   I Had One Candy starts with "I had one candy from the candy store.... Someone came along and gave me more.  I counted my candies, one and two.  Two times one is two." It continues along through the (x 1) multiplication table.
