I know a lot of you are fans of the very popular historical novels written by G.A. Henty, and although you may purchase them in book form from publishers, I thought I'd find freebies for them.  They are often read by preteen or teenaged boys along with their history curriculum (or instead of it, perhaps, paired with some copywork and written reports).

Free U.S. Electoral College Map Poster (in Your Mail!) & More Online

Have you heard of C-SPAN Classroom yet?  It's full of resources for social studies and history teachers (and homeschoolers & parents).  They have a lot to offer virtually on their site, and they will send a free Electoral College Map poster,  mailed free, to those teaching in the U.S. ((homeschoolers, too!) 

Here is what the site creators say about C-SPAN Classroom:

C-SPAN Classroom is a free membership service for social studies teachers. Our mission is to enhance the teaching of social studies through C-SPAN’s primary source programming and websites.

Membership [free, homeschoolers welcome] gives educators access to their own library to store C-SPAN Classroom videos and video clips, supplementary materials such as lesson plans and handouts, and special offers like our American Presidents Timeline poster.

How to Access C-SPAN Classroom:  Go to C-SPAN Classroom to browse and complete a free membership form. 

How to Get the Free Poster:  Go to the Special Offers page to order the poster, but you'll have to register with the C-SPAN Classroom site to receive it (free, no catches). The poster will be delivered to your US mailing address for free.

We've mentioned the Khan Academy math program a few times over the years (program, yes, it's not just videos!), but did you know there are also educational videos on the sciences (physics, chemistry, biology and more), economics, history, civics, and test prep. Free Paper Structures of World Landmarks

Let's learn while cutting paper today, shall we? PaperToys.com offers paper structures (to cut out and assemble) of several world landmarks.   These structures may be used alongside your history program.
   

For example, below is a screenshot of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre (clicking on the photo takes you directly to that drawing):

Or how about the Taj Mahal? (clicking on the photo below takes you directly to that drawing)

The full list of structures includes The White House, Neuschwanstein Castle, Sydney Opera House, Wrigley Field, Big Ben, and the Statue of Liberty among many others.  There are structures simple enough for Kindergartners and structures that will even challenge high schoolers (or you!).

Many more have been added since we last told you about these.  This is a great way to learn and have fun at the same time.

Free mp3 Album: Hector's Favorite Patriotic Songs for Kids

I found a free album of American Patriotic songs!  Right now, we can download 5 free songs (mp3 files).  Choose a song that interests you, or download them all. They are sung by children.  I'd say Elementary age down to Preschool age would enjoy them.
