3rd Edition Highlights:

o The video will include exciting new content, and will be accessible to educators and students on both the DVD and website.

Subway is Offering to Mail You a Free Health Kit for Kids!

Subway will mail a free health kit to teachers (including homeschooling teachers), while supplies last.  The kit includes the items pictured:

Free DVDs (in your mail!) from John Stossel of ABC News

You recognize this face, right?

He says, "Give me a break!" quite a lot and works with ABC News.

Give up?  His name is John Stossel.  He has created several DVDs on educational topics (voting, Katrina, farm subsidies, and private roads are just a few of the subjects on the 2010 DVD). The DVDs are called Stossel in the Classroom and you can get them for .... FREE! ... by filling out a form at the Stossel in the Classroom site (email, name, address, and school or homeschool information are required in the form).

Fancast: Free Movies & Shows from Your Computer

If you don't have satellite or cable television at home, and/or if you don't have a recording option, it's hard to catch some of the best educational shows on t.v.  Fancast has the answer to that, with thousands of movies and television shows that you can view online.

As an educator, you can find full episodes (or full movies) of some educational finds, like

• Unwrapped (learn how processed food is made)
• Tom Brokaw's The Greatest Generation
• National Geographic Explorer
• Good Eats (the chemistry and breakdown of food)

I know I give you too many freebies to possibly check out.  It's easy to miss out on a super duper great one.  I think scoyo might be one of those Super Duper ones. 

scoyo has this to say about their site:

Where would we be without our lights, stoves, heaters, and especially our all-important iPods, Blackberries and laptops?  If we had a world without inventors, we'd have a simple world, indeed.  I love simplicity, but I also love modern conveniences, so I'm all for encouraging students to invent things.  So is InventNow.org...

Free Literacy Site for Preschool through Elementary: Learning to Read

"The Literacy Center aims to provide safe learning activities for parents and teachers to share with young children. It follows a modified Montessori approach to teaching reading. As a pre and early reading curriculum, it assumes that each online lesson will be supported by appropriate offline instruction, either at home or in school."

There are two main areas of the Literacy Center site:

Play and Learn is for students.  In this area, there are letter recognition and word recognition sections, among others.

The following is from a newletter that I receive from the Simply Charlotte Mason website:

Originally published in 1910, this book gives the most comprehensive explanation of Swedish Drill that we've found. Charlotte Mason used Swedish Drill exercises as part of her physical education program for her students.

This 88-page how-to manual will walk you through the various positions and movements, with diagrams and photographs to help. Wow!  National Geographic, NOAA, NASA and other smarties have teamed up to create JASON, a site full of curriculum, lesson plans, games, live events, an argonaut program and more.   The site is so vast and so well created that I urge you to check it out.

Giveaway! Classical Violinist Joshua Bell's Latest CD (closed)

If you teach your children music appreciation and/or if you enjoy classical music, I have an album you may enjoy. Joshua Bell has been in the music industry since he was 14 years old (!).  20 years and 30 albums later, he is still producing top quality classical violin music for us to enjoy and now I get to give away one of his albums!
