The Magnet Man website has a lot to offer budding scientists.  Who doesn't love learning with magnets?  Magnet Man describes his site with the following:

"This web site (Magnet Man) is  devoted to magnetism and the cool experiments you can do with permanent magnets and electro-magnets.  Some of the experiments are very basic - things you've done since second grade.  Others are unique; perhaps you hadn't thought of doing some of these before, or had difficulty in trying to set them up.  Lists of the materials needed for the demonstrations, directions on how to assemble them, instructions on how to show them, and notes on how they work are all here for you." ~ Rick Hoadley, Magnet Man

Connexions: A Free, Open-Education Site for All Grade Levels

Once again, I am awed by what others have taken the time to build and offer on the internet for educators for...free!  100%, no-string-attached free!  Connexions is one of those open-source (free) sites that amaze me.  Because the site is so vast and my (sleepy) mind too small to decipher it all tonight, I'll let an author at Connexions do the explaining:

"Connexions is a non-commercial, open-education resource for teachers and students. All materials are under a Creative Commons attribution license, and so may be freely downloaded, copied, shared, and altered. Because the content is submitted by many different educators, there is a very wide variety of subject matter and "grade level", from pre-school to university.

The Connexions commons can be searched from its home page (http://cnx.org). Or, people who are looking specifically for music education materials may find useful two modules that I have published there, "Music in Connexions: A User's Guide", and "Music in Connexions: A K-12 Teacher's Guide",  both of which explain how to use the site and how to find relevant material. Starfall: For Preschoolers and Beginning Readers

Okay, I have a good one for you today, especially if you have preschoolers and beginning readers traipsing around the house.  We have a couple of those in our house, and Starfall.com is definitely a favorite site for them! 

Starfall teaches children the alphabet and how to read.  It's interactive, brightly-colored, and fun (that opinion is based on my children's frequent requests to visit the site). 

Here is a screenshot of the "Learn to Read" area of the Starfall website:

Click on a "book," such as Zac the Rat and the program reads a book to the child, sounding out, through audio, each word in the book.

Thought I'd pass this one on, since it's a pretty good deal.  If you sign up at Home Depot's moving site, for moving or renovating, you will get 10% off an entire purchase at the store.  Here's the link:

As always, I tried it first to make sure it works.  This offer is straight from Home Depot with no strings attached.  You'll need to give them your name and a password of your choosing along with an email address and mailing address.  I didn't wait to receive my 10% coupon before posting this, so I'm not sure if it will arrive via email or snail mail. 

I'm not sure how long this deal will be going on, but am pretty sure we can classify it as a Limited Time Offer!

The Women's Leadership Program (WLP) at George Washington University is now open to applicants.  You - or your female students, or even your daughter! - may be very interested in all WLP program has to offer.

What is the Women's Leadership Program?  Here is a description from George Washington University:

The Elizabeth J Somers Women's Leadership Program (WLP) is a freshmen, residential, year-long, academic program. Students selected to participate in each program take two courses and a symposium together each term, and live together in a residence hall community on the Mount Vernon campus  (in Washington, D.C.).
