A reader recently requested that I find a math curriculum for 7th grade. Well, I have a good one for you, but it's not just for 7th grade. Mathematics Enhancement Programme (let's just say MEP from now on, shall we?) offers math curriculum for preschoolers up to 9th grade.
Our family has used MEP for a few years and really do like it. The math curriculum is rather hands on, having children count real beads, for example, instead of just counting drawings on a worksheet. I like that. Don't worry if you don't have beads, by the way, beans work just as well, or marbles, or bits of wadded paper. It's so easy to get stuck in perfectionism!
Another thing we like is that the program teaches how to come to the answer in a few different ways, something I wish my math education had included.
The Mathematics Enhancement Programme was developed by the Center for Innovation in Mathematics Teaching (CIMT) at the University of Plymouth in the United Kingdom. The math curriculum is currently in use in schools in the United Kingdom.
For that reason, certain portions of the site are password-protected. The CIMT has been quick and generous in offering that password to homeschooling parents who request it via email.
If you have questions about this program, or want support for using it, please visit the MEP Yahoo group, where over 700 members are waiting to help you out.
Thank you, Tina, for requesting this link to a high quality and 100% free educational find!
